| A splinter party of SDP set up by several cadres loyal to its leader Chiam See Tong after his conflict with other SDP leaders reached a pinnacle. Just before the GE in 1997, Chiam left SDP to join SPP. When SDA was formed in 2001, SPP became its lead party and gave up its symbol to the alliance, adopting a new, similar one. However, ten years later, it pulled out of SDA due to internal row arising from attempts to bring RP into the alliance. In the 2011 GE, Chiam handed over his seat of 28 years to his wife, Lina Loh, to contest a GRC but they lost in all seats. |
