| A political umbrella centred around chairman Chiam See Tong, whose SPP was its chief party. Originally, it aimed to unite all opposition parties under a single banner but this did not work out and it kickstarted with four parties - SPP, NSP, PKMS and JPS. The former three entered the 2001 and 2006 General Elections. In 2007, NSP pulled out to grow its own brand name. In 2010, Chiam invited RP to join and agreed to its demands but this was opposed by other party leaders, sparking internal strife. Closer to the 2011 GE, SPP exited the group it once led. In that GE, JPS was the only contesting party. |
