| Founded by ex-WP chief J. B. Jeyaretnam as a platform to resume his political career after his discharge from bankruptcy. However, the opposition veteran passed away three months later. The following year, his eldest son, Kenneth Jeyaretnam, took up his vacant secretary-general post and in doing so ousted several founders whom were his father's long-time loyalists. In a short time, it was significantly renewed and became a major opposition party but before the 2011 GE, it was reduced once again by a mass exodus, many who left for NSP. Discussions on a possible alliance with SDA and SPP also broke down. |
