| Set up by opposition veterans comprising of mostly ex-SDP members. Before the 2001 General Election, it co-founded SDA with three other parties. In that GE, it clinched its first NCMP seat represented by its secretary-general Steve Chia. After failing to retain the seat in the 2006 GE, it departed from SDA within a year and reverted to its own banner. In 2008, it held merger discussions with SPP, its former SDA partner, without a conclusive outcome and in GE 2011, it fielded the largest number of candidates after absorbing a group of former RP members. |
