| Modelled after but not affiliated to the Labour Party of Britain, which still exists as a major party in the United Kingdom today, it was one of the two electoral contenders, along with PP, in Singapore's early political years. It suffered serious splits in the early 1950s that led to the formation of LF and became defunct after a poor GE showing in 1955. When the new Societies Ordinance passed on 16 May 1960, it ceased to exist after failing to meet the one-year renewal dateline. |
