Originally the Mountbatten branch of LSP, it broke away after the expulsion of its branch chairman and prominent woman politician Mrs Felice Leon-Soh from LSP. It participated in the 1959 GE but was later depoliticised and its key members registered SC as another electoral platform. The entity was renamed Singapore United Asiatic Residents' Association (SUARA) on 28 June 1959 and operated for another year before dissolution.
