Shortly after the first, a second by-election took place following the resignations of another three BS Members of Parliament - S. T. Bani, Chio Cheng Thun and Kow Kee Seng, as the boycott of Parliament continued. Walkover victories, not seen since the Legislative and City Council by-elections of 1952 and 1953 respectively, returned and all three constituencies returned to PAP without pollings.
