MUNICIPAL COMMISSION ORDINARY ELECTION 1949

This first MC (later renamed City Council) election saw six wards with three elected seats each with the remaining 27 seats appointed by the British authorities. Other than the prominent PP, a new political party - LP - made its debut. Like Legislative Council elections, voting was not compulsory and voters had to register themselves. PP flexed its political muscles again by nearly winning all the seats, a one-off feat that only PAP could surpass in years to come.
