Gabungan Parti Sarawak
(English: Alliance of Sarawak Parties)
Founded: 12 June 2018
Following the 2018 Malaysia General Election where BN was ousted, component parties of the governing Sarawak BN, namely PBB, SUPP, PRS and PDP, pulled out to launch a new local coalition due to concerns that its brand name had become less electable in the state. As the victory of PH could usher a new era of revolving-door governments at the national level, a neutral umbrella to work with any entity that wins power would be more feasible to protect the state's interest. The new GPS was officially registered on 19 November 2018 and unveiled its symbol in January 2019. Although declaring itself to be PH-friendly, it has largely opposed their rule. However, in 2020, the status of Sarawak reverted to a federal government-controlled state when GPS gave support to Bersatu, BN and PAS to form a "back-door" government. The popularity of this move would be subject to test at the Sarawak polls in 2021.
