PARLIAMENTARY GENERAL ELECTIONS 1968
This GE saw the longest campaigning period but the least contested seats in recorded political history. Following the resignation of 11 BS MPs and the escape of two BS MPs from Singapore for fear of detention by the Internal Security Department (ISD), Parliament ended up with only PAP MPs. With the exception of WP, opposition parties heeded the call of BS to boycott the GE on the grounds that Singapore's independence and Parliament were "phoney". BS took issue that Parliament was not convened to discuss an important matter such as Singapore's independence. Against this backdrop, another two records were set - for the first time, PAP returned to power on nomination day and won all seats to return a single-party Parliament.
