LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL GENERAL ELECTIONS 1948
History of elections in Singapore began with this very first elections. Only six out of 22 were elected seats while British-appointed officials occupied the rest (very much like the present system in Hong Kong SAR). Two constituencies had two seats each while two other constituencies had one seat each up for grabs. PP was the only dominant political party. Voting was not compulsory and was restricted only to British subjects.
