PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTION 1967

The final BS walkouts from Parliament involved its Members of Parliament Koo Young (Thomson), Ms Loh Miaw Gong (Havelock), Ong Lian Teng (Bukit Panjang), Poh Ber Liak (Tampines) and Tan Cheng Tong (Jalan Kayu). It left BS with only two seats - Chan Sun Wing (Nee Soon) and Wong Soon Fong (Whampoa) - but both these ex-PAP men had fled the country to avoid arrest. Only one out of five constituencies were contested by two independents, with PAP being returned with a landslide, technically leaving only PAP MPs in the house.
