PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTIONS 1967
The final BS walkouts from Parliament involved MPs Koo Young (Thomson), Ms Loh Miaw Gong (Havelock), Ong Lian Teng (Bukit Panjang), Poh Ber Liak (Tampines) and Tan Cheng Tong (Jalan Kayu). It left BS with only two seats - Chan Sun Wing (Nee Soon) and Wong Soon Fong (Whampoa), ex-PAP men whom had fled the country to avoid arrest. Only one out of five constituencies were contested by two independents, with PAP being returned with a strong mandate.
