PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTION 1966 (I)
This was the very first elections in the independent Republic of Singapore after its separation from Malaysia. BS MP Lim Huan Boon's resignation precipated the by-elections and this triggered the BS boycott of Parliament. BS claimed Singapore's independence a "farce" as the matter was not discussed in the House, and its MPs will resign all their seats to take their struggle for democracy onto the streets.
